A Powers Fund grant from Williams College now supports a new season of fieldwork for Post-Extractive Sublime, through June 2027. The project follows territories that mining and heavy industry have reshaped, from the Sulcis-Iglesiente in Sardinia to the industrial pole of Cubatão in Brazil, and from the cenote aquifer of the Yucatán to the Berkshires. In Sardinia, I am descending into mine galleries and caves with local speleological groups, and translating what I find into drawings, photographs and plaster models. The work builds on fieldwork first supported by a Class of 1945 World Fellowship.
